This year I was involved in two evangelism camps. One was my local church and the other was a church in Bratislava. Our local church camp was a sport and music camp. Blackhawk, my sending church sent a team with many people I know and love on it. It was fun to have a little piece home here with me at camp and it seemed like they really enjoyed it! We had more students at this camp then we have ever had at a camp. There were 93 of us total. I really enjoyed the camp and had the opportunity to really encourage many of our older students into leadership roles. I hope that this experience opened their eyes to what they are capable of doing.
The second camp that I was at, I really didn’t want to go to. It was a camp I had said yes to, but really had no role there. Well, I mean I was running the sound, but didn’t do much else. Part way through the week I was asked to have the talk the gospel night. I like talking in front of groups and said yes to this, not realizing the opportunity God was giving me. The camp was different then most, because it was a day camp. This meant that we shared the gospel and then the kids went home, so we didn’t have the chance to pray with them that night. One boy came up to me and asked if we could meet the next day because he had questions. I told him yes and we met after lunch the next day. He told me that he had lost his faith in God and wanted me to share with him how he could know for sure God existed. We began to talk and then more kids began to join us. By the end all the students at camp were sitting there asking questions and I and some of our interns who had joined were doing our best to answer them or at least point them to where they could find the answers. All the students were searching and very few knew anything about God. After we were done I prayed for them, which they agreed to. Although none of them prayed to receive Christ in the end, I believe some big steps were taken in their searching. I love how God uses us, even when we feel unusable! Please pray for the leaders in Bratislava as they work with these kids through the year and continue these conversations that were started!
